Thank you for taking the time to read the spring issue of Health Essentials. As we begin a new season, we’d like to encourage you to put your health first. In this edition, we feature a support group for families with loved ones suffering from brain injury. Also, get important information about cancer screenings and find out why the Women’s Center at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center is so unique. And finally, we tackle one of the biggest family challenges – elderly care.

The INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital has just celebrated its 20th anniversary. The facility is where some of the most challenging healing takes place, with patients recovering from severe injuries – including brain, spinal and other debilitating trauma. The support groups offered here help patients and their families cope during recovery and rehabilitation. For more details, see Support After Trauma.

There isn’t a cure for cancer. But if you knew you could prevent a form of cancer, would you do it? Colorectal cancer is the only one that can be prevented through a very simple screening process. See A Battle You Don’t Have to Fight to learn more about the screening and at what age it’s critical to begin asking for it.

At INTEGRIS Health, we strive to provide the best care possible to our patients. We are also committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for both patients and our employees. At the Women’s Center at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, new security measures are now in place that offer even more peace of mind. Learn about them at Your Protection is Priority.

It’s a challenge going to work while also caring for an elderly loved one at home. In this issue, an INTEGRIS licensed professional counselor tackles that topic and offers information that may give some people comfort. She has the advice that can help you manage the delicate balance of work demands and family needs. We’ll tell you what she has to say at Working and Caregiving: a Challenging Situation.

We want every Oklahoman to know they’re not alone when it comes to their health. We hope this issue of Health Essentials will guide you to living healthier and happier.
