Dr. Ye Yong graduated from Tong-Ji Medical University in P.R. China and earned his doctor degree in medicine in 1983. He then completed four years cardio-thoracic surgical residency training at Sino-Japan Friendship hospital in Beijing. His further training in the United States includes one year fellowship of cardio-thoracic surgery at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt hospital in New York City in 1988.

His experience in all aspects of organ transplantation has accumulated since he started working at Oklahoma Transplantation Institute in 1989 and was under the guidance of Dr. Nazih Zuhdi (Emeritus Chairman). His function at NZTI as a primary organ procurement surgeon has served a pivotal role in all major organ transplant divisions and activities from cardio-thoracic to abdominal organ transplantation. Since 1996, Dr. Yong has led a multi-organ procurement team at NZTI and has performed more than 1700 solid organ procurement procedures and achieved higher organ recovery rate including; heart, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney and small bowel. Dr. Yong, along with his team, has established a reputation as one of only a few in the nation capable of recovering all organs for transplantation. This high proficiency in organ procurement by Dr. Yong’s retrieval team has translated into higher patient survival rates after transplantation at NZTI.

Dr. Yong has also participated and assisted in more than 500 implantation surgeries. Currently Dr. Yong serves as a chief surgeon on the organ procurement team at NZTI.

Dr. Yong is a member of American Society of Transplant Surgeon and a member of International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He has published more than 70 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters related to organ transplantation.
