"Access to adequate health care for individuals with chronic medical conditions, in rural parts of America, has become an enormous problem. Residents in rural counties are at a greater risk for injury and health problems than their counterparts in metropolitan counties. While the health care need increases, in the more rural areas, the availability of specialized health care is decreased. This lack of adequate health care is especially evident with patients who suffer traumatic injuries." (NeuroRehabilitation 18 (2003) 103-111 IOS Press)
