Prior to your visit:

We require a referral from your primary care physician before scheduling an appointment in our clinic. This is necessary even if your insurance company does not require you to have a referral. We require this to ensure that our patients will have ongoing attention to all medical issues, as we will only address the neurologic concerns. Your primary care physician will also be available to assist us in following up on routine tests and studies that are sometimes done in between visits with the specialist.

Once your new patient appointment has been scheduled you will receive a new patient information packet from us in the mail.  Please complete the new patient forms and bring them with you to your visit. This will assist our physicians in ensuring that your child has a thorough evaluation during your office visit.

If your child has had CTs or MRIs done in the past, please obtain these studies on CD and bring them to the visit. We will work to get all other applicable medical records and reports from your primary care physician.

At your visit:

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to finalize paperwork in the office. We will need a copy of your insurance card and a photo ID of the person accompanying the child to the visit. We do require any insurance copayment on the date of service, so please come prepared. We accept check, cash, and major credit/debit cards.

Your time with the Neurologist:

We allot 1 hour for new patient visits, although frequently your child’s evaluation will not require all of that time. The initial office visit includes a thorough, neurologically-oriented history and a physical exam by either Dr. Norman or Dr. Coleman. The doctor will then discuss the diagnosis and order any necessary tests. Blood work (if necessary) can usually be done at our on site laboratory on the same day as your visit. Other specialized tests such as EEGs and MRIs will generally have to be scheduled sometime after the visit. The office staff will work with you to ensure these are scheduled at a time and location convenient for you.
