What is it?
Remote Cardiac Monitoring is monitoring of a patient's heart beat and other vital signs depending on the patient's condition and the nursing need. This service offers a second set of "eyes" to provide backup and assistance to the nursing staff in the monitoring of a patient's vital signs.

What can a patient expect?
Patients wear an electrocardiogram (ECG) telemetry transmitter that observes the heart's beats, or the heart waveforms, typically depicted as periodic spiked lines on an ECG sheet. In addition to observing the heart waves, the monitoring system can observe a patient's blood pressure and oxygen saturation rate (or pulse oximetry).

With recent technology upgrades and renovations, our new consolidated Centralized Monitoring Unit, or CMU, is located on 5 West in the Diagnostic Cardiology Department. With our new equipment and telemetry antenna, a patient is no longer 'out of range' for cardiac monitoring as long as they are within the main hospital.

Remote Cardiac Monitoring Our current monitoring capacity allows for up to 200 patients to be monitored by four highly trained ECG monitor technicians. This service is operational 24-hours per day seven days a week. Monitor techs must take a dysrrhythmia class and pass an examination in order to perform these monitoring duties. They are an integral part of the care team. Their skills in the early detection of potentially serious heart changes help alert the nursing staff to make appropriate interventions.

In addition to monitoring the patients at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, Remote Monitoring also has the capability to monitor patients outside of the campus. We currently monitor patients at other hospitals within the state, providing they have compatible equipment. We currently monitor patients at INTEGRIS Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon.

The Remote Cardiac Monitoring department is constantly seeking ways to expand our coverage areas and offer more services, including the capability to capture a 12-Lead ECG from the telemetry leads.
