Because it uses EBT technology, the radiation exposure of a HeartScan is low. Cheaper, less accurate scans can expose you to up to five times more radiation.

HeartScan vs. treadmill stress tests

Treadmill stress tests and thallium stress tests can only detect blockage when arteries are obstructed at least 50 percent. This is a concern when you consider heart attacks can occur in people whose arteries are 30 percent - 50 percent blocked.

Echocardiogram tests cannot directly detect overall calcium buildup that leads to heart attacks.
