STAR Program

INTEGRIS Mental Health-Spencer is one of only a few inpatient mental health units in the nation, and the only facility in the state, to specialize in the treatment of children with sexually aggressive behaviors. The STAR (Sexual Trauma and Abuse Recovery) program at INTEGRIS Mental Health-Spencer treats children ages five to 14 who have encountered and displayed sexually inappropriate behaviors. Typically the children have been the victim of sexual or other forms of abuse and often have a history of failed placements.

The STAR program is distinctive in its ability to address the specific behavior problems of the child. Treatment includes individual, family, group, and therapeutic recreational services, medication management, social skill training, self-esteem development and anger management, as well as specialty group therapy that address maintaining acceptable boundaries with others.

INTEGRIS Mental Health has been in the forefront in treating the unique needs of these children and will continue its endeavor with the expansion of the INTEGRIS Mental Health-Spencer facility. The remodeling and expansion will increase the facility’s total bed capacity from 96 to 111 licensed beds, allocating 42 total beds to the further growth and development of the STAR program.
