How to Relieve Stress


  1. Do something simple - something that's easy and that you can control, such as weeding a garden, sweeping the walk or mowing the lawn.
  2. Channel your frustrations into acceptable outlets such as exercise, hobbies or recreation.
  3. Take a regular vacation and really get away from it all.
  4. Talk out worries and gripes with a respected friend or your counselor.
  5. Be willing to lose to superior competition when you meet it head on.
  6. Reduce excessive stimulation from such sources as news reports, violent television programs or movies.
  7. Make friends, keep friends, help others.
  8. Get unpleasant tasks over with quickly. Begin with unpleasant tasks and work toward the pleasant tasks.
  9. Attempt to solve problems when you are at your best mentally and physically. Don't let unsolved problems linger or accumulate.
  10. Avoid self-medication.
  11. After disappointing setbacks, take stock of your achievements to restore your self-confidence.
  12. Break the usual routine of activities. Seek new experiences. Become active in sports, clubs or political organizations, go visiting, change your hair or drive home from work another way.
