Associated Risks

While the process of egg donation is relatively safe, potential complications to the donor include surgical risks (bleeding, infection, injury, anesthesia risks); fertility medication administration risks and side effects (hyperstimulation syndrome, unintended pregnancy with multiple births, mood swings, abdominal pain, injection site discomfort); and unknown risks. While the process of egg donation, which has been practiced in the world for more than 20 years, has not been shown to affect the donor’s fertility status, age of menopause or cancer risks, adverse effects may be revealed with further experience in the future.
