SURROGACY:
At present, surrogacy is not offered at BFI even though our staff will gladly refer interested couples to reputable practices in adjacent states that allow surrogacy. Oklahoma law does not address surrogacy, but an Attorney General’s opinion from 1985 suggests that any compensation to the surrogate over and above the usual and customary medical and legal fees constitutes a violation of the trafficking in children statutes. As such, it is legally risky to all involved to engage in such process without solid legal grounds.
IVF IN SINGLE PATIENTS:
Even though Integris Baptist Hospital does not allow IVF in unmarried individuals, our staff will gladly refer interested patients to reputable practices in adjacent states who do so.
PRE-IMPLANTATION GENETIC DIAGNOSIS (PGD):
Testing embryos in IVF for genetic defects before embryo transfer allows selection and implantation of only healthy embryos. It theoretically eliminates the need for prenatal diagnostic procedures such as amniocentesis or chorionic villous sampling (CVS), even though errors in PGD may occasionally occur. Painful decisions regarding the outcome of pregnancy in case of a diagnostic abnormality are therefore avoided. Even though BFI staff has received hands-on training in PGD, BFI does not offer this procedure at present. Our staff will gladly refer patients for PGD to reputable practices in the region that do offer this procedure.
