Michael McGee, M.D.


Michael McGee, MDMichael McGee, M.D., is president of the Hough Ear Institute and has been in practice with Dr. Jack Hough at the Otologic Medical Clinic since completing his fellowship training here in 1981.
 
A native of Harrisburg, Arkansas, in 1971 Dr. McGee graduated magna cum laude from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where he was on the All Conference team in basketball. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1975. His surgical internship and his residency in otolaryngology were done at the University of Mississippi. Then in 1990 he returned to Oklahoma City for a one-year fellowship in otology and established his practice in otology and neurotology.

Numerous mission trips to Africa have given Dr. McGee the opportunity to teach local pastors and to provide medical care for patients in Zaire (Congo) Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, Swaziland, Uganda and Kenya. On trips to Kenya, he has several times climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. He has served as a trustee of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

He is a founding member of the Christian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeons. He has been an organizer and speaker at international meetings in Turkey, Bahrain and Jordan. In 1997 Dr. McGee lectured to ear, nose and throat specialists at the King Hussein Medical Center in Jordan.

His research activities include being an investigator on the 3M Cochlear Implant Project and the Nucleus 22-channel Cochlear Implant Project. He has had several articles and chapters published in leading otologic medical journals and textbooks.

Dr. McGee has been board certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery since 1980. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Neurotology Society, the Otoslerosis Study Group, the prestigious Triological Society and the Christian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeons, as well as local, state and national medical associations. He holds a teaching appointment as clinical assistant professor of otolaryngology at the University of Oklahoma.
