Coping

Once hearing loss has been acknowledged, efforts to minimize the effects of the loss can begin. Admitting the hearing loss is the first and biggest step in coping with the impairment, but following through with rehabilitation is also a hard step.

Frequently one will think, “I don’t want to see a hearing aid on my ear.” Although amplification in the form of a traditional hearing aid is a visible acknowledgement and reminder of hearing loss, the unseen is many times more obvious to others than that which is seen. To put it more directly, “A person’s hearing loss is more obvious than a hearing aid.” You will find that your freely acknowledging your hearing loss is appreciated by others.
