The rehabilitation/habilitation process is essential. It can determine the success or failure of the cochlear implant. Appropriate listening models and materials for the development of listening skills must be incorporated. Educational environments that emphasize auditory skill development are as important as the implant itself. Without appropriate rehabilitation/habilitation, progress of speech and language development may be slowed significantly.
