It Itches by Terry Gonsoulin
A child’s innocence and a sense of humor: two remedies for keeping a positive attitude in spite of breast cancer. What can you do but laugh when… driving home from work, your head is itching so darn bad from the wig, and your four-year-old son reaches over and just yanks the wig right off your bald head and says, “Well, if it itches, Mommy just take it off!!” Of course, the look of shock and horror on the family’s faces in the car next to us was worth the laugh the rest of the way home.

Most people kick their shoes off when coming home from a hard day’s work. I pulled my wig off. Most women with wigs also carefully place them on a wig stand. Mine was hung on the dining chair back. Until the day I discovered my wig had disappeared. It was being passed from one child’s head to another in the front yard with the most spectacular imitation of modeling you have ever seen.
