The cancer registry is an information system designed for the collection, management, and analysis of data on persons with the diagnosis of cancer.

Registry data is based on documentation in the hospital's medical record and information received from the physician offices regarding demographics, medical history, diagnostic findings, cancer information, and cancer therapy and lifetime follow-up. The registry at INTEGRIS Baptist was established Jan. 1, 1967 and has accessioned more than 22,000 cases, with approximately 1,100 new cases added each year.

At INTEGRIS Southwest, the registry was established Jan. 1, 1976 and has accessioned more than 11,803 cases, with approximately 500 new cases being added yearly.

The cancer registry data is used in the following way:

• Evaluate patient outcome, quality of life, and satisfaction issues and implement procedures for improvement.
• Provide follow-up information for cancer surveillance.
• Provide information for cancer program activities.
• Analyze referral patterns.
• Develop educational programs.
• Evaluate efficacy of treatment modalities.

INTEGRIS Baptist and INTEGRIS Southwest report all cancer cases to the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry or state cancer retistry as required by law. Confidentiality of patient identifying information and related medical data is strictly maintained.
