These individualized programs are designed for people who have just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, or for those with type 2 requiring
insulin. The basic knowledge and skills needed to begin insulin therapy are covered. Depending on diabetes type, the programs include four to nine hours of personalized instruction, covering such topics as: 

• Insulin injection and management 
• Self blood glucose monitoring 
• Ketone testing
• Nutrition planning 
• Crisis intervention and problem solving
• Insulin adjustments and supplements
