• 130,000 burn patients require hospitalization – 20,000 die.
• Burns are the third leading cause of accidental death in the U.S.
• Burns are the first cause of accidental death in children ages 1-15.
• Less than 180 burn units are available to care for these patients. The Paul Silverstein Burn Center at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center is the only burn unit in Oklahoma. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive burn centers in the country.
• 80% of fire and burn injuries are caused by the victims own careless actions.
• 75% of burn injuries occur in the home.
