Operating Room Construction

INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center has been a vital and growing part of the community since 1965. Although much has changed through the years, one thing that has not changed is Southwest Medical Center’s commitment to help the community. During these tough economic times we have continued to strive to better our hospital in order to more efficiently serve our customers. INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center has been renovating its operating suites in an effort to fulfill its commitment to serve the community around them to their fullest potential.

The original operating room/surgical suite area was first renovated in 1974. Additional renovations to the operating rooms and outpatient areas occurred in 1986 and an outpatient registration area was added in 1998. Endoscopy and sterile surgical supply were originally located in the basement; however, endoscopy was recently relocated to the 1st Floor and incorporated into the current surgery services area. Since 1998, only minor updating/upgrading of facilities and equipment has occurred. Three of twelve operating suites were renovated in 2001.

Expansion of the surgical suite will include new operating rooms, incorporation of endoscopy and minor procedure rooms, and a re-configuration of patient and staff flow are needed to provide clinical quality improvement, meet the demands of population growth as outlined by strategic master planning, and take advantage of the strategic strengths and opportunities present in the local market.

Some of the highlights of this design include:

Improved circulation to operating rooms and minor procedure rooms with a more central Control Station that allows direct visual observation of all entries into and out of the surgical areas, increasing security and patient safety.
Improved access to operating room equipment and supply rooms; more centrally located with new plan.
Direct connectivity from SAU to PACU for better staffing utilization.
Improved patient flow for Admitting and SAU Check-in.
More centralized, accessible, and efficient Staff and Physician areas.

We are in our final phases of this project and expect completion in May, 2009.
