Stroke is the third leading cause of death in America and the #1 leading cause of serious, long-term disability. In Oklahoma, an estimated 31,000 suffer a stroke annually – 4,000 of which are under the age of 65. It affects four out of every five families in the state.*

The INTEGRIS James R. Daniel Stroke Center at Southwest Medical Center is one of only two centers in the state to be designated as a Primary Stroke Center. The certification is awarded by the Joint Commission, the nation’s predominant agency for establishing health care standards. It signifies the center’s ability to provide the services needed to improve patient outcomes.

More than 100 stroke-certified physicians and nurses staff the INTEGRIS James R. Daniel Stroke Center. And because “time is brain” – the more time lost, the more severe the effects of the stroke – a specialized ER stroke response team meets each patient the second they come through the door. This immediate care, which may include administering the clot-busting drug tPA, allows for the best possible outcome for each patient.
