Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)
The only center of its kind in Oklahoma. The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is a national voluntary health agency combating neuromuscular diseases that affect both children and adults. The MDA covers 43 disorders, including muscular dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), spinal muscular atrophy and myasthenia gravis. Currently, in Oklahoma, more than 2,000 people are being assisted by the MDA with medical expenses, equipment and resources. Previously, many patients had to travel to Houston for comprehensive evaluation and treatment. Now, through a partnership with the MDA, INTEGRIS offers the same multi-disciplinary approach to patient care right here in Oklahoma.
This Center features a concentration of specialists in neurology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation nursing, nutrition management, speech therapy, and medical equipment. They provide diagnostic and follow-up care for a variety of neuromuscular diseases including: muscular dystrophy, metabolic myopathy, inflammatory muscle disease, congenital myopathy, motor neuron disease, Friedreich̢۪s ataxia. Physicians can refer patients by calling 644.5170.
ALS Support Group
The INTEGRIS MDA Neuromuscular Center sponsors a monthly ALS support group that meets the second Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Medical Plaza Building, 4221 S. Western, Suite 5010. This group is open for individuals with ALS as well as their caregivers. It is facilitated by a rehabilitation psychologist and addresses the emotional and social concerns of individuals and their caregivers as they contend with ALS. Speakers are also brought in several times a year to discuss updates on clinical drug trials for ALS as well as medical equipment and community resources. A staff member from MDA is present for this support group for referrals and information. For more information, call 644.5170.
