One of Oklahoma's Largest Stroke Units

Comprehensive, Extensive Stroke Care

Every 45 seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke. If treated quickly enough, the effects of the stroke can be decreased by as much as 30%. Unfortunately, not all hospitals have the necessary personnel, equipment and organization required to rapidly and effectively treat these patients.

INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center is an exception. Southwest has a comprehensive Stroke Center that includes one of the largest stroke units in Oklahoma. The 25-bed unit occupies an entire floor and includes:

Four Neurologists and two surgeons Written stroke protocols
Dedicated medical director-Charles Morgan, M.D. A telemetry unit that allows for continuous cardiac monitoring
RNs trained and certified in the administration and assessment in using National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Full Time Stroke Coordinator
Peer Visitor Program for family support

Dedicated Unit Improves Lives
Studies show that patients who received care in a dedicated stroke unit had a 17% reduction in death, an 8% decrease in length of hospital stay and a 7% increase in being able to live at home.*
