Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability among individuals 44 years and younger in Oklahoma. That's why INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe has developed the most comprehensive adolescent and adult brain injury program in Oklahoma. It's also why we have assembled a team of qualified, skilled and dedicated staff.
An acquired brain injury not only affects the survivor physically, but it also can alter the cognitive, behavioral and psychosocial aspects of life. Family and friends of a patient with a brain injury are also affected.
The inpatient brain injury program is located on the third floor of INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe, a beautiful, three-story, state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital that serves as the anchor of the hospital's statewide services and programs. Our brain injury unit is designed with advanced features that keep each patient's unique needs a top priority.
Our rehabilitation program for patients with brain injury considers the individual, loved ones and friends. We know that each patient is different. That's why we approach each patient's rehabilitation as a learning process that requires a coordinated, interdisciplinary team approach.
Patient care is coordinated by the Brain Injury Team, a gathering of the best and brightest in rehabilitation. Our team consists of physicians specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, certified rehabilitation registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, social workers, speech language pathologists and psychologists.
The core members of the team are the patients and their support system. The Brain Injury Team may also integrate any one of the specialized therapies or programs available at INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe, including:
- Aquatic therapy
- Respiratory therapy
- Driver assessment and rehabilitation
- Recreational therapy
- Music therapy
- Pet therapy
- Wound care
- Telerehabilitation
- Vocational rehabilitation
- Educational services
- Peer advocates
- Dietary
- Pharmacy
The brain injury rehabilitation program reaches beyond inpatient care. That's why our commitment to our patients and their support system remains long after they leave our hospital. We know patients may encounter new challenges as they re-enter their communities.
Our comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation programs offer a variety of resources and follow-up for patients to help with obstacles which may surface physically, socially, emotionally or cognitively. Continuing education, support groups and much more are available to help patients continue to maximize their independence.
With INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe, patients truly benefit from seamless transitions from one level of care to another.
