Support is a critical element throughout this process. Reading about the progress of others can bring comfort during trying times. Read what some of our patients have to say about their experiences.

Personal Comments: I'm an empty nester and a brand new grandma! I think this is the very best time of life (and I really enjoyed our children as they were growing up so just imagine how good it's going to get!) I have a very supportive husband (Paul) who has been my rock for 30 years. We like to scuba dive, snow ski, & travel. I love to study things I'm interested in--especially the Bible! I considered Lap-Band surgery for two years and finally had it done on August 17th, 2006 by Dr. Gornichec. I'm anxious to heal and get going with the fills.
Comments About Russell Gornichec M.D., P.C.: He is very intelligent, confident and thorough with information; apprising me of both the pros and cons of surgery. His office assistant, Kim, is very sweet and helpful. Since I was a self-pay, I didn't have much contact with any others. My surgery went very smoothly and I have yet to have my first fill. His fee includes fills for one year post-op.

Personal Comments: 05/20/06 My testing is complete. Waiting for a date now. BCBS of IL does cover the procedure, unfortunately the company I work for has had all weight loss (even non-surgical) excluded from our policy. So I will be paying for this out of pocket. I had the surgery, everything is great. 07/04/06 I had my surgery 06/02/06, Everything has went great so far I have lost 28 pounds. Dr. G is great, I believe a lot of why I have done so well is because I have followed his orders.and from what I have heard, his are pretty strict. I no longer am retaining water, I get to sleep flat in my bed now. I take one med now instead of 5. I am so thankful for all the good that has came from this, I will happily continue to do as I am told. 08/31/06 Life is still good, except work it bites. My weight at my last visit is 212. The last time I weighed this I was pregnant with my daughter (who is now 12)My loss since surgery is 64 pounds. People where I work are really taking notice.
Comments About Russell Gornichec M.D., P.C.: He was extremely easy to talk to. Was very patient with my questions. Janice (his nurse)was very sweet and helpful. He explained alot about the difference in procedures, the risks, advantages, disadvantanges. I have only met with them once, so far, there are no dis-likes. He seems very thorough. I personally can't stand the thought of surgery.. any kind. I have to admit that he seems to cover his bases. At this point I feel as if anything went wrong it would be if I didn't follow his directions. I guess we will know more after the fact. Waiting on insurance approval and tests. Update: Well since I commented last, I have since had my surgery. I really like Dr. Gornichec, his skill, sense of humor, and bedside manor, makes him a 10+ in my book. His aftercare is very structured. I have followed to the letter and have not been sick, or hungry. I stopped taking pain meds 5 days post-op. I am returning to work 10 days post-op. His staff is a reflection of him, they are all caring and there for you.
