Who says hospital food has to taste lousy? At INTEGRIS Health, we have an award-winning chef who proves otherwise on a daily basis by providing tasty and nutritious meals to our patients, employees and visitors.

Marcelo Miranda is the executive chef at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. We’re proud to announce the Culinary Arts of Oklahoma recently named him the 2006 “Chef of the Year.”

Each year, the Oklahoma chapter of the American Culinary Federation, ACF, recognizes an outstanding culinarian who works and cooks in a full-service dining facility. This person must demonstrate the highest standard of culinary skills, advance the cuisine of America and give back to the profession through the development of students and apprentices.

Chef Marcelo, as he’s called, does all these things and more. He volunteers time to teach cooking classes to students at Platt College and participants of the Job Corp located in Guthrie, Okla. He also serves the Oklahoma community as a whole by featuring a Heart Healthy recipe on KWTV-News9 in Oklahoma City each week.

Chef Marcelo has almost 20 years experience in the hospitality industry at the Westin Hotel and Gaillardia Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City, and several reputable restaurants and hotels in California. He has been with INTEGRIS since 2002.

Miranda received his formal training in Brazil and at the Culinary Institute of America in Nappa Valley, Calif. He is a member of the Escoffier Society, the American Boscuse d’Or Academy and the Les Toques Blanches International Club.

Chef Marcelo’s unique gourmet cuisine has won him several top awards, including three silver medals from the American Culinary Federation National Championship. But he says each new award is just as exciting to receive. He says he is truly honored and humbled by this new distinction.

The ACF developed the “Chef of the Year” award back in 1963. Since then, it has grown in prestige and become the highest honor annually bestowed by the ACF.
