Pneumonia Measures

INTEGRIS QualityGrove General Hospital Quality

Improvement measures for"Blood Culture before Antibiotics."

In an effort to improve compliance in this area, the ER Nurse Manager provided an inservice to his staff, which included instructions to document the time that the Lab actually drew the patient's blood - and not to start the antibiotic until after blood had been drawn.

NOTE: The hospital utilizes a physician-approved CAP Admission Protocol

In order to make sure the patient's blood is drawn by the Laboratory before the prescribed antibiotic is given, the Emergency Room staff documents the time Lab came into the Emergency Room and drew the patient's blood.
