More Than  40 Years of Quality Medical Care

The best in medical care services for over 40  years has been brought to the people of the Grand Lake area by INTEGRIS Grove General Hospital  As the Grove area continues to prosper, so has the need for new physicians and services.  In the past few years, INTEGRIS Grove has invested more than 11 million dollars in the construction of a new physician office building and an ambulatory care center.

Phase I of INTEGRIS Grove’s Master Facility Plan, the Physician Office Building (POB) was completed in September of 2001 and enabled INTEGRIS Grove to house eight new physicians.  The POB is also the home for Practice Management.

Phase II of the Master Facility Plan, the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC),  officially opened its doors September 2, 2003 and  houses state of the art equipment in radiology, surgery, endoscopy and physical therapy.

Phase III, a new 120,000-square-foot hospital is planned on the site to be constructed in the near future.

With more than 36,000 square feet, the $8 million dollar Ambulatory Care Center provides Out-Patient Radiology, Out-Patient Surgery, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and a blood drawing station for lab tests.  In addition, the ACC is equipped with a digital computed radiography system that links to INTEGRIS Grove General and the Professional Center.  With this new system, all images will be interpreted from high resolution computer monitors.  Referring physicians can review X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and MRI images, as well as reports from Dr. Foster, from their computers.  Images can also be reviewed at dedicated terminals in the Intensive Care Unit, Surgery, and Emergency Room.

Imaging studies offered in the new department include diagnostic X-ray, 3D Ultrasound, mammography, and bone densitometry.  In addition, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, X-ray, and fluoroscopic studies will continue to be performed at the hospital imaging department.

In addition, the Out-Patient Surgery Department in the ACC includes two state of the art operating rooms and a endoscopy room with all the ancillary support needed to provide high quality care to our surgical and endoscopy patients.

The operating rooms have been equipped with the latest technology to perform arthroscopic and laparoscopic procedures and designed in a manner that can be easily upgraded as new technology becomes available.  All equipment is ceiling mounted and can be positioned in the operating room for maximum usage for the procedure being performed.

At Grove General Hospital dedication service, November 11, 1963,  W. C. (Bill) Campbell made the statement, “Tomorrow morning the Grove General Hospital will open its doors at 7 o’clock and they will never be closed again.”  There were eight physicians and 14 employees when the doors opened with a 25-bed capacity.  The current facility has a 72-bed capacity and offers a complete range of services.

It all began when Dr. N. A. Cotner arrived in Grove in the summer of 1959, his first plan was to open an office but not far behind was his goal to build a new hospital.  Dr. Cotner, a native of Booneville, Arkansas, had just completed his internship at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma when he came to Grove to open his practice.  His dream was about to become reality.

In October, 1963, the Industries of Grove, Inc., a non-profit organization of local community citizens founded in 1959, announced a plan through which a hospital could be built in Grove.  A community fund raising drive was revitalized to help finance the project.  Dr. Cotner was designated as the builder and president of the soon to be built Grove Medical Center.  Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new facility were held on February 22, 1963 at the construction site on South Main Street.  The residents of the Betty Ann Nursing Home donated a sack of dimes and quarters.

In July 1963, plans were announced for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma to operate the new hospital under a lease purchase arrangement.  Rev. W. C. Campbell, administrator of Miami Baptist Hospital was named to be the administrator.  During the construction period the women’s’ auxiliary, Cheery Cherry Red ladies was formed.

By January, 1965 the hospital reported that there had been 1,041 patient admissions since the hospital opened and 42 births.  The hospital had undergone a Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital survey during its first year and received word on March 26, 1966, that the hospital was accredited.  It was only the second 25-bed hospital in the state to become accredited.

An addition was made to the building in 1967 increasing the bed capacity from 25 to 36 and adding more office, nursing, dietary and linen space.  The administration wing was opened in 1971.  More additions to the building were being made and planned.  1979 saw the completion of a 22,000 square feet addition that nearly doubled the square footage of the hospital.  By January, 1985, the hospital was beginning $4.39 million expansion to the hospital. This addition would add a new emergency room, two operating rooms, a six-bed ICU-CCU facility, 12 new patient beds and a new dietary area.

During the ensuing years other projects were completed including the building of a clinic in the town of Jay and the acquisition of the Professional center in Grove.  Henry Lamb who served 16 years as administrator was promoted to a position with Baptist Healthcare of Oklahoma, Inc.  Randy DuBois replaced Lamb as the administrator.  DuBois served five years as administrator before assuming the combined responsibility of administrator of both the Grove hospital and Baptist Regional in Miami.  Following DuBois resignation in June, 1996, Dee Renshaw was appointed administrator of both facilities.  Renshaw had previously served as administrator of TRINITY LifeCare, a home health division of Grove General.  Mr. Renshaw served 3 years in that role and was part of the grand opening of the largest and most significant addition to the hospital campus March 4, 1997 with the opening of a large new two story area on the west side of the hospital.  Incorporated in the new addition were a new entrance and lobby, larger emergency department, diagnostic laboratory and expanded outpatient surgery.

Which takes us back to the present, under the leadership of INTEGRIS Grove General Hospital Administrator Greg Martin.  Mr. Martin became the Administrator at INTEGRIS Grove in August of 1999.  Mr. Martin came to Grove after serving as the Administrator of Blackwell Regional Hospital for 8 years.  In the last 4 years, Mr. Martin has recruited 11 new physicians to begin their practices in Grove and opened a new Cath Lab in a joint-venture with a cardiologist, unusual for a rural hospital.  Diagnostic and interventional caths have been provided to patients in this setting.

In the spring of 2006, INTEGRIS Grove will be opening its own in-house MRI and will be acquiring two 4-D Ultrasounds

With these new physicians and services, INTEGRIS Grove General Hospital can provide the majority of care for patients in our service area.
