PYXIS machines are installed at each patient care area to dispense patient medication without the attention of a pharmacist.  With a virtual paperless environment, PYXIS computers allow nursing staff to look in patients chart for prescribed medication and the PYXIS machine will dispense only those medications prescribed by the physician.  PYXIS will also document the time and dosage of medication dispensed electronically to the patients chart.
