In a partnership with the local Yukon Rotary organization, INTEGRIS Canadian Valley Hospital recently hosted a group of 11 Japanese students as part of the Rotary International “Wings of Rotary” exchange program. This year, students came from Iwate, Japan which is mainly an agriculture area located on the island of Honshu, just north of Tokyo.

To give them a better understanding of Oklahoma agriculture, the students visited Redlands Community College-Darlington campus and toured the center where the school conducts goat milk and meat research. While there, they were given the opportunity to pet and feed the newborn baby goats – most just only two weeks old! During their two-day stay in the Yukon community, the students also toured the Brahms Farm in Tuttle, the Express Ranch and Clydesdale Farm in Piedmont, and Fort Reno in El Reno.

This year, hospital president James Moore, opened up his family home and sponsored two of the students from Iwate. He is an active member of the Yukon Rotary organization and helps coordinate the Canadian County tour each year. “Our challenge is to expose these students as much as possible to our own culture and history…and what great educational opportunities we have right here in Canadian County.”

Walt Corbett, chairman of the Oklahoma Rotary District 5750 and Foundation Board member of INTEGRIS Canadian Valley, hosted 4 students this year and was very instrumental in coordinating the 2-weeks of student activities and host family exchanges. “This is the 34th year of the exchange program and next month, we will be sending 10-12 of our own Oklahoma high school students to Japan for this same experience.” Students spent time this year with various Rotary host families in Stillwater, Ponca City, Yukon, Midwest City, and Oklahoma City.
