C=Community, A=Assistance, R=Relief, E=Effort, is to be used for inpatient, outpatient, and ER patients at INTEGRIS Blackwell Regional Hospital. The purpose of the CARE program is to improve the quality of care for needy patients as the return home after their hospital stay, to improve the wellness of the community through outreach education, and to decrease unnecessary visits to the emergency room and physicians clinics. Some of the services provided by the CARE program include; educational videos on a wide variety of healthcare issues including prevention and care, prenatal and parenting classes, diabetes awareness and education. CARE also provides assistance with medications, medical equipment and supplies needed after release from the hospital, diabetes supplies and services, and medical services including ultrasounds, X-rays, physical therapy, etc. Due to cuts in state and federally funded healthcare programs (such as Eldercare), increase in Medicaid and Self-pay patients, increase in the incident of diabetes, and the fact that prescription drugs are still not included in Medicare, contribute to the need for the CARE program. In addition, Ponca City and other area physicians have quit taking Medicaid OB patients, a gap that Blackwell doctors are filling, resulting in a baby boom at INTEGRIS Blackwell Regional Hospital. Ninety-three babies were delivered in FY 2002 and nearly 400 in FY 2004, with the trend anticipated to continue! The CARE program has made a tremendous difference in many lives, from a young traffic victim needing physical therapy, an elderly woman needing a transfer bench in order to be released from the hospital care to home health care, to a large number of pregnant patients with gestational diabetes needing education, supplies, and dietary services in order to improve their health.
