In January 1957, Enid General Hospital (now known as INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center) decided to organize a volunteer program. This was a revolutionary idea, as hospitals were not accustomed to having volunteers working with patients or their families.
Fifty-nine women reported for the first meeting of the “Cherry Red Ladies”. In the past 48 years, the Auxiliary has seen many changes. Gone are the Cherry Red Ladies and Candy Stripers. Men, women and teenagers all work together to assist patients, families and hospital employees in virtually every area of the hospital, including the INTEGRIS Bass Gift Shop.

Current membership in the Auxiliary is 245, with 160 active members. In total, volunteers contributed more than 27,000 hours last year to INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center.
In addition to being active volunteers and fundraisers, auxiliary members are also advocates for the hospital, building support throughout the community for our non-profit health care facility.
The Auxiliary’s projects improve the physical appearance of the hospital and raise the level of care at the main hospital and its other two campuses.
The Auxiliary also awards scholarships to local high school graduates who have participated in the “VolunTeen” program and meet the scholarship selection criteria.
Auxiliary members also provide a personal touch for hospital patients.
The INTEGRIS Bass Auxiliary is self-governing. Its board meets once a month with hospital administrators to set future directions and plan activities.
Serving on the board or on one of the Auxiliary’s committees offers a chance to donate a valuable service to the hospital and community.
