The Birthing Center at INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center offers specialized care and education for expecting parents.
Whether it’s a first-time mom or a more experienced one, the staff at INTEGRIS Bass treats each one like family.
“We feel that the arrival of a new life is a beautiful and unforgettable event,” said Carolyn Owens, Clinical Director of Women’s Services. “More families choose to have their babies at INTEGRIS Bass Birthing Center than any other hospital in Northwest Oklahoma, because we have confidence through competence.”
All nurses who work at the birthing center are certified in Neonatal Resuscitation to handle any problems that may arise and 13 nurses are nationally certified. INTEGRIS Bass also has an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) on staff.
Guests enjoy beautifully furnished suites, which include a birthing bed, dinette, sleeper chair, bassinet and entertainment center with a CD player and TV/VCR. Each suite also has its own private Jacuzzi tub.
The hospital provides the latest alternative therapies for labor including, a labor support chair, birthing balls to allow the baby to descend into the pelvis, aroma therapy, music therapy and nurses who have special training in labor support. The hospital also has volunteer Doulas on hand to assist patients during labor.
Bass Birthing Center provides breastfeeding support to all mothers while they are in the hospital. The lactation consultant will make rounds on all breastfeeding mothers during their hospital stay.
If a baby requires a higher level of care, INTEGRIS Bass has a Level II Special Care Nursery available. The Special Care Nursery is equipped with the most advanced technology and highly qualified nursing staff to deal with any complications a newborn might have in Enid.
Parents with infants in the Level II Special Care Nursery are offered overnight accommodations in one of the hospital’s courtesy rooms. This gives parents time to nurture and care for their infant while learning how to care for the special needs of your baby.
For those rare, extremely premature births, a lighted heliport provides immediate transport to various Level III neonatal intensive care units in the state.
Before leaving the hospital, every baby born at INTEGRIS Bass is given a hearing screening using state-of-the-art auditory assessment equipment. The screening is done while the baby is asleep and measures the baby’s brain response to a series of clicking noises.
INTEGRIS Bass also offers the Newborn Channel, a 24-hour educational television network delivered directly to your room. The programming, which is available in English and Spanish, addresses a myriad of topics from postpartum care for mom to how to soothe a crying baby.
One of the newest additions to the services offered at the birthing center is the web page, at www.GrowingFamily.com.
The baby’s photo is taken before they leave the hospital and the parents must complete an information and consent form. It takes about five days for a baby’s web page to be ready. Once the page is ready, it can be personalized with special backgrounds to reflect individual style and friends and family can leave special messages for the new baby.
The birthing center offers a variety of educational classes and times to meet busy schedules.
The Birthing Center took on a new look in the Fall of 2003 when construction was completed on the new Women’s Center.
The new and improved Birthing Center features:
- Home-like birthing suites with Jacuzzi tubs in each room
- dedicated surgical suite for mothers undergoing c-sections
- state-of-the-art infant security system
- well baby nursery and a special care nursery.
- lactation consulting room
