Community Acquired Pneumonia Measures

INTEGRIS Quality > Bass Baptist Health Center Quality

INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center has taken several initiatives to improve the quality of care our patients receive when admitted to our hospital.

The Medical and Nursing Team at “Bass” are aware of the importance of getting Pneumonia diagnosed as soon as possible. We have developed a specific Pneumonia protocol for those patients coming to our hospital, which will facilitate a rapid response in the diagnosis and treatment of Pneumonia. Using the protocol, we are able to get initial blood oxygen readings through a non-invasive tool called a “Pulse Oximeter”. This will help us to know if you are getting enough oxygen. We also take a blood sample, called “Blood Cultures” to help the physician determine the organism causing the Pneumonia and to help select the most appropriate antibiotic needed to stop the lung infection.

Our Medical and Nursing Team know the importance in getting you the medications as soon as possible and make certain that your medication is given to you while you are in the Emergency Department or within the first four hours if you are admitted directly from your physician’s office.

If you are 65 years or older, we have developed an algorithm or protocol, that will help us to determine if you are eligible for immunization against Pneumonia and can initiate the administration of this vaccine while you are hospitalized. We do this for all patients 65 years or older regardless of diagnosis.
