The Hospitalist Is Always In Hospital Care Is Their Specialty
The next time you or a loved one has to spend time in a hospital, you may encounter a relatively new kind of physician: a hospitalist. These physicians specialize in the care of hospitalized patients. They typically have limited or no outpatient responsibilities, so they can devote their full time and attention to patients who are in the hospital. Once a patient is admitted, the hospitalist takes on responsibility for his or her care. After discharge, care reverts back to the patient’s personal physician.
Hospitalists may work for hospitals, physicians’ groups or managed care organizations. According to the Society of Hospital Medicine, the professional organization for hospitalists, there are currently more than 20,000 practicing in the United States.
At INTEGRIS, our commitment is, and always will be, to make sure your stay in the hospital is as comfortable – and effective – as possible. And that means the ways in which we keep that commitment change, continually setting new standards for excellence. That’s why we have hospitalists available across the metro area to provide specialized care, 24 hours a day.
INTEGRIS Health’s hospitalists are physicians who are specially trained in internal medicine and the treatment of patients in a hospital setting – so they are not only highly effective in their assessment and treatment, but they are readily accessible and can provide treatment quickly.
Although some patients are apprehensive about a new physician taking care of them while they are in the hospital, studies have shown that most patients are happy with the care they receive from hospitalists.
INTEGRIS hospitalists communicate with your primary care physician to ensure that your health care is managed well, even when unexpected care is needed. And because hospitalists utilize the hospital as their primary site of practice, they are familiar with its systems and are onsite to see your care through, from admittance to inpatient treatment to organizing post-acute care. INTEGRIS hospitalists believe quality care requires safe, timely, effective, efficient, evidence-based and patient-centered care for each patient at each encounter.
In addition to the benefits they provide in the hospital setting, hospitalists also can improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction in physicians’ offices. Office-based physicians who work with hospitalists don’t have to make frequent trips to the hospital, so instead they can concentrate more fully on their office appointments.
At INTEGRIS, your health is not something we think about just while you’re here. We think about it before we ever even meet you. Because to us, excellence is a daily, hourly endeavor to provide The Most Challenging Healing.™
