OKLAHOMA CITY – Each year thousands are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a progressive, degenerative disease of the central nervous system. The disease can be very frightening to those who are afflicted with it and to their families. To learn more about early detection and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and take advantage of a free memory loss screening, plan on attending one of four educational presentations throughout the Oklahoma City metro, Edmond, Midwest City and Yukon communities.
Tomas Owens, M.D., will discuss the latest information on Alzheimer’s disease and the disease process, medical findings and medications available on Wednesday, June 4, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 222 N.W. 15, and on Wednesday, June 11, at Waterloo Road Baptist Church, 3100 E. Waterloo Road, Edmond. The free Alzheimer’s education and screening series will continue on Monday, June 23, at Sooner Baptist Church, 5824 S.E. 15, Midwest City with Rindi Tipton, M.Ed., LPC and on Friday, June 27, at Yukon First Church of the Nazarene, 525 E. Main, Yukon with Earnest Warner, M.D.
Each program will begin with a light lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by a noon presentation. After each presentation, mental health professionals will provide free memory loss screening tests at each site from 1 to 3 p.m. Reservations are required.
The events are offered free as a community service by INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center, INTEGRIS Mental Health, and Areawide Aging Agency. For more information or to make reservations, call the INTEGRIS HealthLine at (405) 951-2277.
