INTEGRIS Health Positive Directions Mentoring Program Expands to Yukon Public Schools

OKLAHOMA CITY – The INTEGRIS Health Positive Directions mentoring program continues to be a leader in the community as an advocate for education, expanding its initiative to the Yukon Public Schools. As one of the pioneers in the Partners in Education program in Oklahoma City Public Schools, the elementary school mentoring program began in 1991 at Dunbar Elementary. It then expanded to Fillmore Elementary and INTEGRIS Health’s charter school, Western Village Academy. More than 350 mentors are involved in the program system-wide.

The mentor program has now formed a partnership with INTEGRIS Canadian Valley Regional Hospital and Yukon Public Schools. Hospital employees will volunteer one hour a week with students enrolled at Shedeck Elementary. Mentors spend one hour each week with their student, working on class assignments or reading a book.

“Our employees at INTEGRIS Canadian Valley Regional Hospital are very excited about their role as a mentor in the Yukon schools,” says Kathy Lowder, INTEGRIS Community Health Improvement specialist and coordinator for the Positive Directions mentoring program.
