– March’s INTEGRIS Health Essentials programs and events topics range from colon cancer awareness, stress, disaster preparedness, erectile dysfunction, weight management, cancer support, self purpose, cosmetic procedures, diabetes, urinary incontinence, blood donation, eye health, CPR, massage, and correct posture, to our Health Essentials Preferred Members PACER Fitness Center open house.

National Colon Cancer Awareness Month – Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States, affecting both men and women. Those with the disease don’t always have symptoms, especially at first. Join gastroenterologists Carl Raczkowski, M.D., and Clinton Wallis, M.D. Digestive Disease Specialists, Inc., INTEGRIS Digestive Health Center, for on-air interviews on the importance of early detection and prevention through colon cancer screenings and treatment options now available. Dr. Raczkowski will be live with KOKC Radio’s Randy Renner at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, March 7, and Dr. Wallis will be featured on KOMA’s Community Affairs program with Steve Bennett at 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 9.

Saturday, March 1, Meditation to Handle Stress – Over worked? Over tired? Lacking peace and joy? Meditation is good for body and soul. In this beginner meditation class you will learn three beneficial techniques to use in managing your stress. Join Cyndy Green, B.S., health educator, for an informative, inter-active class. Class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, at INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center, 5520 N. Independence. Cost is $10, and includes a two day pass to PACER.

Monday, March 3, Friday, March 14, and Wednesday, March 26, Are You Prepared for a Disaster? – Remember “Ice Storm 2007” and the subsequent hours, days, and weeks without electricity? How prepared were you? On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the most prepared, how did you score? Would you like to be a ‘5?’ When the tornado or next ice storm is approaching, it’s too late to make a list of what you need to survive. Be prepared in advance! Join us as representatives of the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross discuss what one needs to do to be ready for a disaster.

Tuesday, March 4, Erectile Dysfunction – What to do if the pills don’t work or you can’t take them. Join board certified urologist William F. Barnes, M.D., to learn more about the many other treatment options available for ED other than oral medication or tablets. The presentation will be held at 6 p.m. at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center.

Saturday, March 8, Strength for Caring – This daylong workshop for caregivers of cancer patients covers topics such as understanding cancer and its treatment, meeting the physical and emotional needs of cancer patients, dealing with changing family roles, talking with physicians, managing symptoms such as pain and fatigue and improving the caregiver’s physical and mental health. The free workshop for caregivers will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Troy & Dollie Smith Cancer Center Resource Library at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. A light lunch will be provided.

Saturday, March 8, Find your Lamborghini Purpose in a Wal-Mart World – Join published author and celebrity speaker Susanne Blake with friends and fellow travelers in a fun-filled exploration to discover your special purpose. Blake’s purpose for this special return engagement, is to communicate her own experience and teachings in a magical way so you can find experience, strength, hope, and your own unique calling. You will gain clarity not only about your purpose, but also about where to focus your energy. This will be the event that will bring a message you can celebrate through the years to come. Monday, March 10, Mirror, Mirror on the Wall – Have you ever wondered how you can minimize the appearance of wrinkles, unwanted hair, acne, acne scarring and unsightly veins? If so, join INTEGRIS Family Care Norman physician Lacy Anderson, M.D., for an informative session. This free presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. at INTEGRIS Family Care Norman, 700 24th Ave. N.W., Norman.

– Most of us are familiar with the disease of diabetes and its devastating effects on the body. But, do you know its symptoms (sometimes there are no symptoms), the risk factors, its prevention, or management of the disease if you are suffering from diabetes? Join two of INTEGRIS Health’s community dietitians for one of two educational sessions that will take you through the diabetes journey.

Tuesday, March 11, and Monday, March 24, Surgical Weight Loss Seminar – It’s always best to lose weight through a healthy diet and exercise. Monday, March 17, Blood Donors Offering Health, Hope, Comfort and Healing – Spring 2008 blood drives will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at INTEGRIS Baptist, INTEGRIS Southwest and the Oklahoma Blood Institute. Donors will receive a free T-shirt, Members for Life points, and free health checks.

Wednesday, March 19, HeartSaver CPR – PACER Fitness Center is joining up with “HeartSmart” to offer you the latest in CPR training. Learn all the new guidelines and methods for cardio pulmonary resuscitation. Class includes: One-Man CPR, Child/Infant CPR, Choking for Adult, Child/Infant and AED. Thursday, March 20, Living Life with Cancer – Because living life fully is important, INTEGRIS Oncology Services is hosting a new monthly support group for cancer patients and caregivers. The new program is designed for all persons affected by cancer and is open to anyone diagnosed with any form of cancer (recent or long term survivors), caregivers and support persons, regardless of where treatment is being provided. The ongoing support group will be held monthly on the third Thursday of every month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Troy & Dollie Smith Cancer Center Resource Library at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. If you or a loved one has been affected by cancer, this is a great opportunity to share and make new friends while learning from medical professionals.

Monday, March 24, Mind/Body Essentials: Massage 101 – Massage for both adults and children is good for health and emotional well being, helps chronic anxiety, muscle tension, body aches and pain and often helps you sleep better. Join the INTEGRIS James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit for an opportunity to learn about the different types of massage therapy (Swedish, deep tissue, sports, etc.) from Becca Morsman, a nationally certified massage therapist and massage therapy instructor at the Oklahoma Technology Institute. Morsman will provide insight on what to look for when booking or receiving a massage, and provide some simple massage techniques you can use on yourself, a family member or a friend. Saturday, March 29, B-A-L-A-N-C-E … Get To the “Core” of the Matter! – A “balanced body” is a “smart body”! Join certified exercise instructor Darlene Paine to learn correct posture, proper body alignment, the importance of using your “core’ muscles, and how to stay “flexible.” All of these are key components to keeping your balance!
