OKLAHOMA CITY -
Linda Merkey, RN, MBA, CNAA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, recently received the Excellence in Nursing award from the Oklahoma Nurses Association. She was presented with the honor at the ONA Convention on Thursday, October 30th.

The Excellence in Nursing Award is conferred on a member, who has developed an innovative, unique and creative approach that utilizes nursing theory and knowledge in any practice setting: Administration, Education and or Direct Patient Care. The recipient should be recognized by peers as a role model of consistently high quality nursing practice and as one who enhances the image of professional nursing by creating an environment promoting professional autonomy and control over nursing practice.

“It was an honor and a privilege to be recognized by my peers and colleagues in this way,” says Linda Merkey. “It is always great to be able to spotlight the positive accomplishments we have made in Nursing at INTEGRIS Baptist. With our recent designation as a Magnet facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and our finalist status in the American Hospital Associations' Quest for Quality, this is just one more way we can say that we are continuing to strive for excellence in all that we do.”

Merkey has 29 years experience with INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in various clinical, management, education and administrative roles. She earned her BS degree in Nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee and her MBA from Oklahoma City University.

This isn’t the first time Merkey has been recognized by the ONA. She won the organization’s Excellence in the Workplace Environment award in 2003. That award is presented to groups that have developed positive work environments. These facilities must have developed an innovative and effective program, approach or overall environment that promotes excellent nursing care and supports nurses in their practice.
