Jim Daniel

OKLAHOMA CITY - To envision the needs of the future, one must truly understand the past. And when it comes to INTEGRIS Health, James R. “Jim” Daniel not only knows the history of the organization – he has lived it.
Daniel’s father, Reverend John T. Daniel, was one of the first volunteer chaplains at Baptist Medical Center, and was also a fundraiser for the Golden Age Retirement Homes located where the INTEGRIS Pacer Fitness Center now resides. Daniel and his father even fished in a small lake at that site. Today, Daniel is an active supporter of INTEGRIS health, serving in leadership and volunteer positions throughout his more than 30 years of commitment and service to the organization.
Daniel was elected to the Baptist Medical Center Board of Directors in 1973 and eventually named chairman. He became a member of the INTEGRIS Health Board of Directors when it was formed in 1995, serving as chairman from 2001 to 2002. In 2001, he received the foundation’s Award of Excellence in recognition of his life-long commitment to the INTEGRIS Health organization.
On a personal level, Daniel’s dedication to INTEGRIS came largely from first-hand experience with the organization, as a patient and a family member. Both his father and his mother, Winifred Daniel, suffered strokes and were treated at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. Daniel was impressed with the medical attention they received and made it his mission in life to further advance the research and technology of stroke treatment. He recently committed $1,000,000 to help establish a permanent endowment that will support both the Stroke Center of Oklahoma at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center and the Cerebrovascular and Stroke Center at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.
“Eventually losing both of my parents to strokes really heightened my awareness of the disease and its prevalence in Oklahoma and America,” says Daniel. “Strokes are the third leading cause of deaths and the No. 1 cause of disability in America,” he adds. Daniel has supported stroke research for the past several years through the INTEGRIS Foundation, and he hopes this latest commitment will help pioneer new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of strokes that will significantly improve patients’ chances for an optimal recovery.
He prays his generous gift will continue to bring the latest and greatest advances in stroke therapy to the Sooner State. “This is a real passion for me,” says Daniel. “I truly believe strokes are preventable with the proper diet, exercise and education; but should a stroke occur, your only defense is to receive immediate treatment and the best that medicine has to offer.”
