INTEGRIS Third Age Life Encourages Strength Training

March 26, 2007

OKLAHOMA CITY - Strength training is a safe and beneficial activity for men and women of all ages. One recent study has shown that strength training increased muscle strength, reduced resting blood pressure, increased bone mineral density, relieved depression, and more.

Free senior strength classes are taught weekly by INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center instructor Gail Sullivan, at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 p.m. on Fridays, at the INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center, 5300 N. Independence.

Sullivan utilizes bands, balls and other equipment in teaching seniors the proper techniques for strengthening the body’s muscle groups. Students are then equipped and encouraged to perform these exercises at home between class sessions.
