OKLAHOMA CITY - It’s back-to-school time and Western Village Academy, operated by INTEGRIS Health, is making sure its students are ready to return to the classroom. On Aug. 13, which is enrollment day at the academy, a variety of different health screenings will be offered to WVA students and their siblings.
Immunizations will be administered, dental screenings will be offered by the Small Smiles dental clinic and asthma education will be presented by the INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center Respiratory Therapy department.
“The goal is to have the children start school healthy and make sure they are current on their immunizations,” says Susan Ward, the academy’s nurse practitioner. She says the event is also designed with parent convenience in mind. “Many parents will be taking time off work for enrollment, and providing these services on the same day may prevent them from having to take off more time.”
Western Village Academy has provided immunization clinics in the past, but this is the first year to also offer the other services. “The incidence of asthma is increasing in elementary age children and is often a reason for missing school,” says Ward. “By educating parents and children on asthma symptoms, we hope to have treatment started early to benefit the child, reduce emergency room visits, and decrease time missed from school and work.”
DATE: Monday, August 13 TIME: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. PLACE: Western Village Academy, 1508 N.W. 106 St.
The media is invited to cover the event. We are expecting 330 students, along with their parents and siblings. Please page 629-3204 to arrange an escort.
This screening is NOT open to the public.
