May 2007, Free Hearing Screenings – Join the INTEGRIS Cochlear Implant Clinic and Hearing Enrichment Language Program (HELP) for a free hearing screening in the month of May. Screenings will be offered by appointment only with staff audiologists on Wednesdays and Thursdays in May at 3434 N.W. 56 Street, Suite 101. Tuesday, May 1, Changing Your Weighs – This comprehensive weight-loss program is aimed at helping you rethink your approach to weight loss by focusing on three important elements: nutrition, activity and behavior modification. Changing Your Weighs is designed to help you restructure your attitude and your lifestyle for permanent weight loss. An orientation session will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1. The actual eight-week program will begin on Tuesday, May 8, with classes continuing weekly through June 26, at INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center. Pre-registration is required. Cost includes an eight-week pass to INTEGRIS PACER. Discount for Health Essentials members.
Tuesday, May 1, Bladder Control Problems Stealing Your Freedom? – Join urologist William Barnes, M.D., and Karen S. Taylor, ARNP, as they review alternative therapies for overactive bladder, incomplete emptying of bladder, and neurogenic bladder treatments that are available other than medications. Primary focus will be on Interstim implantation, a neuro-stimulation therapy to restore bladder control. The presentation, sponsored by INTEGRIS Men’s Health University, will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Oklahoma Cancer Center Conference Room at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center.
Wednesday, May 2, Better Breather’s Club: Asthma – This support group is offered free to the community the first Wednesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Central Oklahoma Cancer Center Conference Room at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center. May’s topic will be asthma. Family and guests are invited and encouraged to attend. Lunch provided.
Thursday, May, 3, Caregiver Fundamentals – An estimated 44 million Americans are providing care for a loved one. Are you overwhelmed with the responsibility, or just looking for answers? Join other family caregivers for a four-session Caregiver Fundamentals workshop beginning May 3. This excellent workshop, brought to you by Sunbeam Family Services and the Alzheimer’s Association, will cover topics such as Journey of the Caregiver, Caring for Yourself, Legal Resources, and more. Sessions will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. at INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center South, 4200 S. Douglas Blvd.
Thursday, May 3, Obesity and Diabetes: Get the Facts – Obesity is one of the main risk factors for diabetes. Today, more than 65 percent of U.S. adults and 15 percent of children older than age 6 are obese, and diabetes is soaring to epidemic proportions. Join INTEGRIS ProHealth Edmond physician Jeffrey Thompson, M.D., as he discusses the risks of obesity and diabetes, and treatment options available. The presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Edmond Community Center, 28 E. Main St., Edmond.

Saturday, May 5, HeartSaver CPR – INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center is joining up with HeartSmart to offer you the latest in CPR and AED training. Learn all the new guidelines and methods for CPR. Adult, child and infant skills will be covered. Classes will be held at 9 a.m. at INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center, 5520 N. Independence. Cost is $45.
Saturday, May 5, Pilates – Join certified Pilates instructor and trainer Jill Balch for this master class from 1 to 3 p.m. at INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center. Balch, a graduate of the Physicalmind Institute, has more than 10 years of Pilates experience, and is the owner of Total Pilates in Tulsa, Okla. Pilates experience is preferred. Class will be held at 1 p.m. at INTEGRIS PACER Fitness Center, 5520 N. Independence. Cost: $30.

Services will include health screenings, massages, information and education booths, health and wellness talks, as well as “Ask the Medical Professional” services. Thursday, May 10, I Can Cope: What is Cancer? – Workshops for cancer patients and their families that cover cancer treatments, managing the effects of illness and treatment and the mind-body connection. Join oncologist James Hampton, M.D., for an up-to-date look at the anatomy of cancer. Reservations are required. The workshops will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Troy & Dollie Smith Cancer Center Resource Library in Building D at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.
Friday, May 11, Cochlear Implant: Opportunities for Individuals Who are Deaf – In recognition of national Speech and Hearing Month the Hough Ear Institute at INTEGRIS Health will host an educational panel presentation for the hearing impaired, on cochlear implants. Join Richard Kopke, M.D., FACS, medical director of the INTEGRIS Cochlear Implant Clinic and CEO of the Hough Ear Institute, and R. Kent Dyer Jr., M.D., medical director, INTEGRIS Hearing Enrichment Language Program at the Hough Ear Institute, for insight into one of the most significant technological advances of the 20th century in the lives of those it affects. The presentation will be held at 2 p.m. in the James L. Henry Auditorium at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.
Monday, May 21, Mind/Body Essentials: Want to Improve Your Memory? – If you are concerned about memory loss, this program is for you. With the help of master magician Len Sparagowski, you can improve your memory abilities and have fun while doing it. Along with some magic, there will be a demonstration of how to memorize large volumes of information at great speeds. Exercising your brain power is called Mnemonics. Billions of dollars are spent each year on programs dealing with exercising your body. Join us for free and learn how to exercise your brain. The presentation, sponsored by the INTEGRIS James L.
