How Big is Your Banana?

Anyone who’s ever kept a food record understands this
dilemma. Estimating the calories in your banana is tricky. Bananas
come in all sorts of sizes. Obviously, there’s more calories in a big
banana than in a small one. According to the USDA’s National
Nutrient Database for Standard Reference—the calorie content of
bananas can range 75 calories for an extra small (< 6-inch) banana to
140 calories for a banana that measures 9-inches. Sixty-five calories
may not seem like a very big deal. Then again, it may make a
difference if you’re striving to reach specific nutrition goals.
