Mind/Body Essentials Summer Classes for Kids

Children ages 8 to 11 can learn to manage stress and experience creative growth through two summer classes offered annually by the INTEGRIS James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit. Yoga for Kids teaches children to pay attention to stress in their bodies and also discover the quiet, still place within where they can center and focus as they move through the changes, challenges and confusion of growing up. Kids also learn self expression through Sand Mandalas, training lives one grain of sand at a time.

Strength for Caring

This daylong workshop in the Troy & Dollie Smith Cancer Center at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center for caregivers of cancer patients covers topics such as understanding cancer and its treatment, meeting the physical and emotional needs of cancer patients, dealing with changing family roles, talking with physicians, managing symptoms such as pain and fatigue, and improving the caregiver’s physical and mental health.

Mind/Body Essentials: Meals Matter!

Do you eat one “main” meal a day? Skip breakfast? Munch on snacks instead of eating on a schedule? Experts are starting to question how wise it is to lead such fast-paced, hectic lives. Eating-on-the-run can lead to problems managing a healthy body weight as well as having a low energy level. Nutritionist Karen Massey, RD, LD, who speaks regularly on dietary issues, delivered this presentation on the importance of eating meals in a stress free environment, sponsored by the INTEGRIS James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit.

I Survived Cancer but Never Won the Tour de France

Author, poet and attorney Jim Chastain told a moving story of cancer survival. After being diagnosed with cancer resulting in the amputation of his right arm, the young husband and father was determined to go through the process looking for the funny moments. His presentation was open to the public.

Fearless Aging: Keeping your Brain Healthy

Your brain is involved with everything you do. How you think, how you feel, how you act and how well you get along with other people is intimately tied to how your brain functions. Utilizing the latest, most sophisticated brain imaging technology in medicine, clinical neuroscientist Daniel Amen provided an intimate look into a “working brain, correlating the different brain patterns with specific feelings and behaviors such as moodiness, irritability, conflict avoidance, worrying, impulsivity and temper outbursts, along with certain common psychiatric disorders such as depression, ADD, anxiety, dementia and substance abuse during a presentation sponsored by the INTEGRIS James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit.
